The DIPC is delighted to present the Irish Preliminary Competition of the 2025 Dublin International Piano Competition on 20th December 2024 at the Whyte Recital Hall, Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. This showcase event brings young Irish pianists from all over the country together, including several who study abroad in England and Scotland.
The candidates to perform are Adam Collins, Dida Condria, Johanna Dietz, Rowel Friers, Justine Gormley, Defne Gultoprak, Adam Heron, Brendan Kennedy, Luke Lally Maguire, Laoise McMullin, Stanislaus O’Beirne, and Mickey Tomas. Those who emerge successful will perform in the online First Round of the Competition in February which will be available for all to view on the DIPC’s YouTube Channel.
On the panel of jurors, we have an exciting streamlined team chaired by DIPC Artistic Director, Finghin Collins, joined by renowned Irish pianists Fiachra Garvey, Isabelle McConnell and Michael McHale – all of whom have experience competing in the DIPC – and National Symphony Orchestra Concerts and Planning Manager, Cathy Stokes, herself a former piano student at the RIAM.
The DIPC is to include a chamber music element in its Semi-Final Round, where each competitor will perform a piano quintet with the ConTempo Quartet, and of course, the three finalists will perform a piano concerto with the NSO in the final battle for the First Prize on May 16th 2025.
We are thrilled to welcome the twelve Irish applicants to this exciting day of auditioning. Performances will take place all day, beginning bright and early at 9:15am, with the jury retiring at approximately 5:30pm. The results of the Preliminary Competition will be announced at approximately 6:00pm.
Admission is free to these performances, and there is no booking required, making them the perfect opportunity to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping. Stop by and catch virtuosic piano music performed by some of Ireland’s most talented emerging pianists. For those who cannot make the live performances, it is planned to live-stream the event on the DIPC YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@
The pianists will each perform a half-hour programme, with a huge range of repertoire varying from Bach to Beethoven, Liszt, Fauré, Gershwin, Alban Berg and Gerald Barry.
Mark your calendars and witness the extraordinary performances that the Irish Preliminary Competition promises to deliver!
