The DIPC is thrilled to present its 2025 Winner, Canadian pianist Carter Johnson, in concert at the prestigious Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall at 7:30pm on 4^th November 2026.  This exciting opportunity comes after a triptych of debut concerts across Ireland in late September/ early October, at UCH Limerick, the Whyte Recital Hall at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and at the Ardilaun Hotel in Galway, as part of Music for Galway’s 45th international concert season.

In addition to his technical command and compelling touch, Carter’s flare for pianism is evident in his programming.  A great advocate for including lesser-performed piano music, Carter often makes his audiences fall in love with music they are not used to hearing live, as well as making them fall in love with his interpretations of better-known works.

The recital programme includes works by Schumann, Schnittke and Bartók.  The infamous literary duality of Schumann’s character – Florestan and Eusebius – will be portrayed through the combination of his beloved ‘Arabeske Op. 18’ with the later ‘Ghost Variations’.

The sinister Schnittke ‘Prelude and Fugue’ is sure to keep the audience on their toes, making a seamless transition from classical to modern repertoire with its haunting echoing nods to J.S. Bach and Shostakovich.  The Bartók Sonata makes an exciting ending to a recital that is sure to take its audience on an emotional and intellectual journey.

The New York recital is an important part of Carter’s DIPC First Prize and marks his Carnegie Hall début.  The recital is generously sponsored by Sean Reynolds and family.
