DIPC PRESENTS ITS 2025 WINNER IN HIS DUBLIN DÉBUT RECITAL ON OCTOBER 1ST

 

Carter Johnson to perform at Whyte Recital Hall, 

Royal Irish Academy of Music on October 1st 2026 at 7.30pm

 

The Dublin International Piano Competition (DIPC) is delighted to present a recital by Carter Johnson, winner of the 2025 Competition, his first performance in Ireland since claiming the prestigious international title.

The concert takes place on Thursday, 1st October 2026, at 7.30pm in the Whyte Recital Hall, Royal Irish Academy of Music, Westland Row, Dublin 2..

Since winning the Competition, Canadian pianist Carter Johnson has continued to build an international career, reaching the Finals of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas, two weeks after winning the DIPC.  He also won Second Prize at the Honens International Piano Competition in Calgary last October.  His return to Dublin marks a significant moment in his artistic journey.  While in Ireland, Carter will also perform at the University Concert Hall Limerick on Wednesday September 30th, and at the Ardilaun Hotel in Galway on Saturday October 3rd as part of Music for Galway’s 45th international concert season. 

At this exclusive recital, his only Dublin performance of 2026, Johnson will perform a fascinating programme of well-known and less familiar works for piano solo, including Beethoven’s beloved “Moonlight” Sonata and Irish composer Judith Ring’s evocative piece “Something Beyond”, which was commissioned for the DIPC by its media partner RTÉ lyric fm.  

The recital reflects the Dublin International Piano Competition’s ongoing commitment to supporting outstanding young artists beyond the Competition itself, providing winners with valuable international performance opportunities while enriching Ireland’s classical music scene.

Artistic Director of the DIPC, Finghin Collins commented: “Carter Johnson is one of the most talented pianists on the world stage today and he was the clear favourite of both audience and jury of the 2025 Dublin Competition.  Following a string of international successes in 2025, he is now receiving invitations to major orchestras and concert series.  We are thrilled to present Carter in his Dublin début in October and expect this to be a sell-out performance.”
